Love As Gratitude

“How I love, cherish and treat myself serves as a living guide for how others are to love, cherish and treat me, and for how I love, cherish and treat others too.” (Excerpt from the book Prosperity NOW!)

During this time of Thanksgiving, I am very conscious of how love can serve as the central operating principle for living. To be in a position of gratitude implies that there has already been an exchange. What is it that you have received, for which you are now thankful? For the souls who are living from a conscious spiritual basis, this thankfulness will likely precede the actual receiving. We are thankful in knowing that a prayer is being answered, that a desire will be fulfilled. Regardless of if a soul is thankful for what has already been received, or thankful for the fruits to come, the underlying basis of gratitude is love.

Why do we give of ourselves, our time, or possessions? Is it for an expected outcome or praise? Or is it from a desire to love, serve or assist others? And why do we receive? Is it because we love ourselves enough to know that we deserve the good that is being given to us of another? The holidays can be especially loving for those who are surrounded by friends, family and loved ones who freely give of themselves, lovingly and abundantly. (I am speaking here about the spirit of giving, more so than of the tangible giving of items. For we can give of our time, our thoughts, our emotions, our very being and Presence can all serve as gifts of love.) Also, the holidays can activate emotions of sadness or shame if one is not surrounded by the numerous forms of love. For these souls it is especially important to rally their emotions around love – loving oneself enough to choose to receive loving people, places and circumstances, as well as to be loving to all people, places and circumstances.

Let us focus this week upon loving ourselves and others more fully. Let us be thankful for who we are, exactly where we are today in this moment, that which we have already received, as well as the many blessings that are unfolding in our lives.

Lovingly,
Shawna Marie
